Maps

We have learned that all the different places we live on the Earth. There are a whole bunch! We also created our own city maps and wrote directions to get to a store in our city. That was challenging!

This week we are wrapping up maps by learning about the different types of maps, and creating a coordinate plane map.

We will also start our life cycle unit by learning about living vs nonliving.

Friday is our school wide celebration of reading 1,000,000 minutes as a school. It should prove to be "Seusstastical!"

Symbols and Presidents

We have learned a lot about the first and sixteenth presidents of the United States and US symbols. Your child worked really hard to learn about one of the symbols so they could teach their classmates. It was a challenge, but they did really well.

This week (and probably part of next) we are learning about maps. We found where we were on the Earth thanks to Google Earth. It was really fun to watch it zoom in on our school.

Presidents

Last week we learned about Presidents Lincoln and Washington. We even wrote a paragraph about what we had learned about each one. It was really hard work.

This week we are learning about US Symbols, but I won't be doing the teaching, your kids will. This will be a great opportunity for your kids to use their reading, writing, and speaking skills. It should be a great learning opportunity.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Last week was a busy, busy week. We celebrated our 100th day of school. It was a lot of fun!

Figuring out how to seat 20 students at 6 tables and decorate them with 100 balloons for our celebration.

We had to try to think of 100 animals, books, toys, and foods. (We are still working on it.)

Sorting and graphing smarties.

Deciding what we would look like at 100.

What can you make out of a 1, and two 0's?

We also learned about the different types of force and even did an experiment. Your kids are great scientists! We learned that a crumpled piece of paper will fall to the floor before a regular piece of paper because a regular piece of paper has a harder time moving through the air, and that gravity is pulling on them both.

We even took some time to learn about Ground Hog's day, and watched to see the groundhog see his shadow. I guess that means 6 more weeks of winter!

This week we will start our Presidents, and Symbols and Landmarks unit. It will be a lot of fun.
